Q: What does the inspection involve (what do we check)?
A: Our inspection reports include the detailed condition of body and paint including; dents, scratches, rust, condition of tires and wheels, glass, interior, presence of oil leaks noted, electrical systems and accessories, steering and suspension, and drive train performance. The vehicle may also be test driven to verify engine, transmission and driveline operation. The inspector will look over the interior and exterior of the vehicle for any obvious damage and wear and tear. The inspection is based on a visual assessment and performance evaluation during a test drive. No disassembly of the vehicle will be performed during the inspection. Refer to What do we do. for additional details. Also see our Disclaimer for additional details.
Q: Is the vehicle lifted off the ground for an undercarriage inspection?
A: The vehicle may be lifted for an undercarriage inspection if the seller has a vehicle lift and agrees to put the vehicle on the lift for the inspection.
Q: What are the inspector's qualifications?
A: Most of the inspectors are experienced, ASE certified mechanics and/or body shop professionals that have been involved in the automotive industry for several years. We hold our reputation with our inspectors qualifications and utilize only the best available inspectors in the field. Our inspectors are all independent contractors and follow our guidelines for each inspection type. This way we keep a uniform inspection profile for all of our inspections.
Q: Does the inspector use any diagnostic equipment to test the electronics system?
A: Our inspectors do not use any diagnostic equipment or tools. 1996 and newer cars have an OBD II system that will turn on the check engine light for an emissions related fault.
Q: Will the inspector perform a compression test?
A: Because of the liability with the removal of any component from a vehicle with the use of tools, we do not offer a compression test.
Q: Can I see sample reports of previously completed inspections so I know what I am getting?
A: We do have several sample reports available for you to review on our sample page of the website.
Q: Can the inspector call me from the vehicle location?
A: The inspector will normally call you from the vehicle location. Please expect the call from the phone number that you provide on the order form. You will be able to view the report and the photos on our website once the report has been completed and reviewed (normally the following business day).
Q: How long does the process take from the time I order the inspection?
A: Most inspections are completed within 2-3 business days from date the order is placed. The actual time depends greatly on the schedule and cooperation of the vehicle owner/ seller to work with the inspectors available schedule.
Q: Do you guarantee the turn around time frame for the inspection to be completed?
A: No. There are too many varying circumstances that affect the time frame for the inspection; therefore, we do not guarantee that the inspection will be completed within the normal time frame. Under all normal circumstances, we will try to complete the inspection during the normal turn around time.
Q: Do the inspectors inspect vehicles on weekends?
A: Inspections are typically conducted during business hours Monday through Friday. All orders received on Saturday, Sunday, and holidays will be processed the following business day. We do not offer weekend service.
Q: Does National Auto Inspection Services have inspector all over the USA?
A: We have inspectors all across the US and Parts of Canada. Many major US and Canadian cities as well as other rural areas will not have any mileage fees. If by chance we do not normally cover an area of the vehicle that you ordered the inspection for, we will call or email you with a quote for that inspection prior to any additional charges on your card
Q: Does National Auto Inspection Services guarantee the inspection?
A: The inspection is NOT a guarantee because the vehicle is fully assembled for the inspection and the inspector cannot see the internal components of the vehicle, including transmission or engine components. There is the possibility of impending failures that are not evident at the time of the inspection, therefore any inspection cannot be guaranteed. See terms and conditions and the disclaimer on the website. We do however work very hard to perform inspections in an accurate manner. We also sell additional warranty coverage in order to help you protect your new purchase in the event of future failures. (see warranty brochures for details)
If you feel that the inspection was not performed accurately, please send an email to us within 15 days of the inspection report delivery and explain the problem so that we can review it and take the necessary action to solve the problem. Many things can happen the longer you wait to notify us the less likely we may be able to help resolve any problems.
Q: Does National Auto Inspection Services check vehicle history reports on the vehicle?
A: The inspection does not include a background check or VIN check of the vehicle. The inspector only performs a physical inspection of the vehicle. You may order a vehicle history report from another party and email or fax it to us and we will be glad to review it as part of the inspection.
Q: What is the cancellation policy?
A: If the inspection is cancelled before the inspector has scheduled the inspection we will refund the full amount less a service fee of $25. If you request a cancellation and the inspector has already performed the inspection there will be no refund. If our inspector sets up an appointment for the inspection and goes to the vehicle site and the seller does not have the vehicle available for the inspection or the vehicle was sold and we were not notified of such activity, you will be charged the full amount of the inspection as agreed. Additional fees will be applied to have the inspector re-visit the inspection site.
Q: What happens if the inspector is unable to test-drive the vehicle?
A: During all inspections we will try to test drive most vehicles during an inspection; a test drive may not be performed for a number of reasons. These reasons could include; a refusal of the vehicle's current owner / seller to allow a test drive or drive the vehicle as the owner and insured, safety issues, weather conditions (especially if it is a classic car inspection), if the vehicle does not have a valid registration or the minimum insurance required by law, and/or any other reason that will not permit a test drive. A test drive is not required for an inspector to complete an inspection and if the inspector is unable to perform a test drive for any reason we will try to reflect this in our reports.
Q: How much does the inspection cost?
A: Most late model cars start at $125.00 for local inspections and classic and exotic cars start at $225.00, see our Services page for more details. Mileage fees may apply if the vehicle is outside of our inspectors local area and you will be notified prior to any mileage charges (if any). Most major metropolitan areas will not usually have mileage fees associated with the inspection.
Q: How do I order and pay for the inspection?
A: Orders are placed online by clicking the "Order Now" button on the home page and filling out the information on our secure order form. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. When placing an order for an inspection there is a section on the online order form to include your payment information.
